Sumit, Aparajita clinch double crown for Puri

Sumit Kumar Banerjee and Aparajita Gochhikar clinched a double for Puri by winning the boys and girls titles respectively in the State Junior (under-19) Chess Championship, which concluded at K C Club in Nayagarh today.

Altogether 24 boys and six girls participated in the three-day championship, which was hosted by Rotary Club, Nayagarh under the aegis of Orissa Chess Adhoc Committee. Boys played six rounds, while girls faced five. Nayagarh SP Deba Prasad Majumdar gave away the trophies at the closing function. Top four finishers in each category qualified to represent Orissa in the Junior National Championship later this year.
